Puppies! We know there are SO many puppies out there as a result of having some freed up time over the past couple of months. I get it, if I didn't have four dogs already one who is still a puppy, I would have definitely been where y'all are at!

With workplaces slowly opening up, we are faced with leaving our pups home for extended periods of time. Although we have certainly tried our best to prepare them for this shift from kennel training to online classes, our sudden absence will still be a huge shock to them.

Our midday breaks are perfect for puppies who are potty training, learning crate time, still eating lunch and in need of socialization and exercise! Even if you are home, having a new person work with your pup has countless benefits for their development! Did you know that puppies should have 100 interactions with humans before they are 16 weeks old!?!?

The term setting your pup up for success is definitely something we hear a lot of but there's a reason for it. We can avoid many problematic behaviours such as fear and anxiety that develop over time by taking a preventative approach when our pups are wee and impressionable!

Hello Tinkle Time Family,

I hope you are all doing well during this interesting time and that you've been able to adjust alright. There's no doubt it has been challenging but I'd like to believe that there's something positive to take away from all of this.
Over the past couple of months, I have put quite a bit of thought into what our new 'pet service' normal would look like. As such, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some important information and new and exciting things at Tinkle Time Pet Services!

WE ARE OPEN!

With the gradual reopening of the province, people are going back to work, going on trips and booking events. We are open for our usual midday break, walk, overnight care and taxi services. Online booking is available for your convenience.

Safety is our top priority. It is imperative both staff and clients adhere to AHS's strategy for success: follow public health measures, practice physical distancing and good hygiene, and continue acting responsibly.

Additional precautionary information:
- Overnight care in a client's home will only be offered to existing clients and on a case by case basis
- Overnight care in a sitter's home will be offered on a case by case basis

NEW! *TINKLE TIME TRIM AND TIDY - LIMITED MOBILE GROOMING SERVICES*

We recently added limited mobile grooming to our service options! "Tinkle Time Trim and Tidy" is a (limited) mobile grooming service for cats and dogs! We come to you! For dogs, we offer nail trims, paw tidy ups, face tidy ups, paw shaves, paw butter applications, ear cleaning and teeth brushing. For cats, we offer nail trims, lion cuts and sanitary tidy ups. Our groomer, Jaymie, is a professional groomer with years of hands on experience and we are so lucky to have her on the team. We have all been social distancing for over a month now and adapting to this 'new normal'

It has been interesting to observe my own reaction to these uncertain times. Initially I was panicked and worried that things would never go back to the way they were. But then I asked myself why would something completely out of my control make me feel that way? I hadn't lost control over my ability and what I have to offer so I took some time to reflect, think and (informally) plan.

The outcome, I am a much stronger person than I was one month ago. I've found a new found passion for fitness ( thank you @oxygen.alberta and @hotshopyyc ) and even took the plunge and committed to my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training journey starting May 4th through @altryoga 🧘‍♀️ My biggest take away from this is digging up that natural instinct and resilience from within to persevere and make the most out of this crazy time.

As for Tinkle Time, we aren't going anywhere. In fact, quite the opposite. We have made some exciting changes like introducing mobile grooming services. There are a couple more ideas brewing and I can't wait to share what's to come.

Tinkle Time continues to offer walks if they are needed at this time. Our online booking is open for your convenience.

My heart goes out to everyone directly impacted by COVID-19 including those who are truly struggling mentally and emotionally right now. These are seriously trying times on mental well being and if you are struggling, please don't be silent. The sense of community that has been born out of this unfortunate event is tremendous and we are here for you.

My gratitude goes out to our health heroes, my family and friends. Thank you.

Adapting looks different to everyone. All you can do is tap into something inside that fuels you to overcome this, something that feels good to you. It doesn't have to be big, even something as small as finishing a book, going for more walks or reorganizing your living room, because it WILL get better.

Animal rescues are seeing an influx of foster and adoption applications as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. It makes sense because people are home pretty much 24/7 right now and can give their full attention, care and time to a pet, especially dogs.
°
Although this is certainly a positive to the rescue community and to many animal loving families, new pet owners must prepare their new family member(s) for real life.
°
When things go back to 'normal', the shock a dog will experience when his pack suddenly returns to work for 8+ hours a day will be tremendous. It will be incredibly stressful for him and will present significant challenges to owners if they don't prepare their dog properly.
°
Here are some tips for those inviting a new four legged member into their family, whether it's a foster, rescue or from a breeder, during this crisis:
°
1) It is critical to kennel train your dog for safety and coping skills. Kennels are a dogs safe space if introduced properly and should be used sporadically even while you're home. Suddenly introducing a kennel for an 8+ hour period when you return to work will be very stressful for your pup (and you).
°
2) Create boundaries in the home i.e. don't let your dog in certain rooms or on the furniture. This is training without actually training. Boundaries build confidence and in many instances create a safer environment for your dog.
°
3) Balance leaving your dog at home (kenneled) with taking them for a car ride (also kenneled). You want to build up their ability to be alone along with building up their confidence in the car.
°
4) Socialization. This is a tough one especially during social distancing. It is imperative that puppies are socialized before 12 weeks of age. The people and other dogs in your home don't count. There are a few companies still offering dog walks as well as a few daycares and groomers that are still open. These are your best bets in getting your puppy off on the right paw. The number one killer of dogs is not illness; it is behaviour issues that arise from lack of proper socialization in these critical first few weeks.
